Arts Education at Lacordaire Academy strives to discover, mentor, and show appreciation of, the artistic talents of all our students. We pride ourselves in offering Arts Education programming as a way to provide students some space in their day to embrace imaginative thought and creation. Throughout the academy cross-curricular collaborations are created by using a variety of artistic styles and mediums to build and reframe original ideas and foundational concepts. Students enrolled in the Lower School use creative dramatics and "Reader's Theater" techniques to explore a fuller understanding of literature. Middle and Upper School students connect performance and fine art to conceptualize and embody lessons in Social Studies, Science, Math, Literature, Creative Writing, and Foreign Languages. During the current academic year, the arts department intertwined student works of short stories, artwork, and live performance to create a digital multimedia project that will make its debut at the Academy Art Museum in May.
To quote renowned education specialist Maxine Green, “Arts education, like aesthetic education, can create domains where there are new possibilities of vision and awareness. Art educators can help awareness feed into an expanding life of meaning, can make increasingly available moments of clarity, moments of joy." Explore how Lacordaire encourages all the possibilities.
